New things

Wow... it's been 8 months since my last post... and my little girl is now 8 months old.. is that a coincidence... I think not! LOL. Our little Isabella was born on the 19th of November.. so exactly 9 days after my last post.
Although life has been very full and busy with a new baby, I have been diligently working on the birthstone series that I started so many months ago. I am currently working on June's birthstone... I got a little bit behind on them when we went on a vacation to my home province of Nova Scotia to show our little Isabella off to the family. We were gone for 3 weeks and it's been a very busy (and very fun) summer. We recently just got back from a trip to Jasper. It was a beautiful few days in the Rockies, though we didn't camp this year, it was hard enough hotel-ing it. There is so much to pack when you have a baby!

I've been working on another project which many of you who are fans of my art on facebook will have already seen.. I became obsessed with Fairy Doors a few months ago.. and when the idea started keeping me up at night I knew it was time to just try and make some. I've really enjoyed how they have turned out.. and I will definitely be making some more.. and playing with the designs a little too. My original fairy door idea still hasn't come to fruition.. but good things take time ;P

Going back to the artwork.. June's birthstone is well on its way, and I will be finished (fingers crossed) in a few days. It's very girly.. I guess roses and pearls just scream girly.. and the fact that I've chosen a rosy pink for the mermaid just adds to it (the girlishness). I'm really liking this one, and can't wait to share it with you all.

Please go to my website if you would like to see the latest paintings in the series. There are just too many to put in one post!

My Fairy Doors are available in my Etsy store "Entrance 2 Enchantment".

Hello again!

Well, it's been way too long since I last blogged.. a lot is happening in my life right now, and my painting has taken a backseat to all the new changes coming my way..
I've started painting again, after a long dry spell.. I've spent the last 9 months nesting, and taking care of myself in preparation for our new arrival.. we're having a little girl, any day now!
I've started a new series of paintings, mermaids and fairies representing the birthstones for each month of the year. These paintings are smaller than I usually paint, but I've found that 5x7 is much more manageable than doing the large 11x14's. They will also be easier to finish once my little bundle is here, I'm sure I won't have as much time as I usually do to paint! These paintings will also be much more affordable than the larger paintings, for those who would like to own an original.

Thank you to everyone who has waited patiently for me to pick up my brushes again.. I'm back!!! :)

Here are the first two in the birthstone series.. November- Topaz Mermaid and December-Blue Topaz Fairy.. I've just finished the sketch for January (Garnet).. and she's looking lovely.. can't wait to start painting her!

Dreamer

Well, I hope everyone had a great Valentine's day, and Family day.. I had a great weekend, flowers+ movies+ nice weather and a BBQ !! Plus I finished a painting!! yay!!

Here she is.. Dreamer..
I was a little worried about getting the reflection right, but when I started painting it, I realized that I wanted the reflection to be a bit faded, because when we wake up from our dreams, they are often hard to remember.. faded. I also wanted the painting to have many different layers to it, the fairy, the frame, the water behind the frame, the dragonflies- because our dreams often have many layers and meanings behind them.
She is exactly as I imagined her, so I am quite pleased with how this one turned out, hope you all enjoy her as much as I do.

Sweet Dreams everyone!

my poor neglected blog!!

Oh my.. I've been neglecting my blog again!!!
It's been a few months already.. I am going to have to start marking it on a to do list or something!!! Lets see, I've only finished one painting since my last blog.. but I'm well on my way to another finished piece.

I've been really pre-occupied with a few projects, I was working on greeting cards with my friend Kelliena, she is a talented psychic from Halifax, NS.. we have come up with some greeting cards featuring my art and her readings/sentiments inside. They are beautiful, and I hand embellish each card with iridescent paint. They are available on my website, as well as a shop in NS called "Sarah's Spiritual Treasures" in Lower Sackville. (She also has a few of my necklaces available too).

I've also been quite distracted by my favorite band.. they're coming to Edmonton!!! The name of the band is HIM... they're from Finland, they sing their own special brand of music they call "love metal"... I've been addicted to their music for the past few years, and they also just had a new album come out.. I've had it playing non stop since it came out Tuesday.. LOL.. it's playing right now!!! I always have music playing while I'm painting, I find it helps me relax into the painting, I'm not thinking so hard about each brushstroke, my hands just move, and the paint goes where its supposed to... sometimes I find painting is like a sort of meditation for me. I think everyone has a source for their inspiration, mine comes from music and nature.

I'm contemplating putting up a work in progress picture of the one I'm working on now.. but maybe I'll wait, I'm so close to finishing... well here is the last painting I did.. it's called "Mermaid of Hope's Reef".. I was craving something colorful.. the dead of winter will often do that to a person I guess!

Happy Valentines All!!!!!!

Wow, the holidays are over already, I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season!!
My Christmas was busy, but fun!

I completed this painting just before Christmas, it's been up on the website for a few days, but I was too busy to post anything here on my blog. It's a painting inspired by identical tattoos that me and my sister have on our wrists.

I have some exciting new products coming soon to my website.. stay tuned.. I will be posting more info in a few days.

Happy New Year everyone!! Wishing you lots of love and happiness in 2010.

Holiday artwork

Here's my latest two paintings, I've been working hard the last month painting as much as I can, I know my painting will slow down over the holidays. I'm really pleased with how my Angel of Christmas turned out, so I'll definitely be creating more angels in the future.
I'm currently working on a painting of an immortal being, I haven't decided if she's a witch or a vampire.. I may just leave it up to the viewer to decide. I may do one more winter themed painting before I start on a Valentine one.

Hope everyone is having a good time preparing for Christmas.. I've already got my Christmas lights up in the windows.. but I'm waiting a bit longer to put up our tree... it's really hard to keep our cat out of it. I've already baked some shortbread cookies.. and I hope there will be some left for Christmas.. they're just too good to stay out of .. hehe.

I'll have another new painting up in a day or two.. so bye for now ! :)

Play Dead

Ok.. so I guess I wasn't done being excited for Halloween after all... I got this idea partially from a nightmare I had when I was a child, where my favorite teddy bear came to life and was chasing me. Also I was talking to my sister in law about cute skull barrettes she had seen online, and it kind of got the wheels turning... so I came up with this idea, and I think I'm going to make a series out of it, called "Toybox Horrors".. I'll definitely be adding to the series every Halloween.. but I do often get the urge during the year to go to my dark side and let my imagination run wild.. so I'll probably be adding to it more than once a year!

Well on a personal note.., I've recently been feeling a whole lot better, I was suffering quite badly since last spring with very bad heartburn... not just regular heartburn, but everyday heartburn, which bothered me almost 24/7. I went to the doctor, was put on several different meds... then sent for a stomach x-ray.. they couldn't find anything. So I decided to completely change the way I eat... I cut out almost ALL the sweets in my diet (this was particularly hard for me since I have a sweet tooth the size of Mount Everest).... but I've been feeling so good since I changed my diet! I've hopefully also solved my jaw problem... I just got back from the dentist.. I got one of those mouth guards for at night... and hopefully that will get rid of the horrible clicking when I chew, and the headaches I've been getting.

I want to take this opportunity to thank everyone who's been buying paintings, prints and necklaces from my website.. I have the best family and friends a girl could ask for. The support from everyone is so appreciated!!
Special thanks to my friend Kelliena, she just purchased my original painting "Spring Fairy".
Kelliena is a great friend and she's also a gifted Psychic, she does readings at several places in Halifax,NS you can go to her website to see where she's reading on any given day (she also does phone readings). I'm an addict to her website, she has free daily horoscopes.. I check them every day :)

Well, I'm gonna spend a few more minutes tonight working on a new sketch... hopefully I'll be starting painting it tomorrow.
