Hello again!

Well, it's been way too long since I last blogged.. a lot is happening in my life right now, and my painting has taken a backseat to all the new changes coming my way..
I've started painting again, after a long dry spell.. I've spent the last 9 months nesting, and taking care of myself in preparation for our new arrival.. we're having a little girl, any day now!
I've started a new series of paintings, mermaids and fairies representing the birthstones for each month of the year. These paintings are smaller than I usually paint, but I've found that 5x7 is much more manageable than doing the large 11x14's. They will also be easier to finish once my little bundle is here, I'm sure I won't have as much time as I usually do to paint! These paintings will also be much more affordable than the larger paintings, for those who would like to own an original.

Thank you to everyone who has waited patiently for me to pick up my brushes again.. I'm back!!! :)

Here are the first two in the birthstone series.. November- Topaz Mermaid and December-Blue Topaz Fairy.. I've just finished the sketch for January (Garnet).. and she's looking lovely.. can't wait to start painting her!

Dreamer

Well, I hope everyone had a great Valentine's day, and Family day.. I had a great weekend, flowers+ movies+ nice weather and a BBQ !! Plus I finished a painting!! yay!!

Here she is.. Dreamer..
I was a little worried about getting the reflection right, but when I started painting it, I realized that I wanted the reflection to be a bit faded, because when we wake up from our dreams, they are often hard to remember.. faded. I also wanted the painting to have many different layers to it, the fairy, the frame, the water behind the frame, the dragonflies- because our dreams often have many layers and meanings behind them.
She is exactly as I imagined her, so I am quite pleased with how this one turned out, hope you all enjoy her as much as I do.

Sweet Dreams everyone!

my poor neglected blog!!

Oh my.. I've been neglecting my blog again!!!
It's been a few months already.. I am going to have to start marking it on a to do list or something!!! Lets see, I've only finished one painting since my last blog.. but I'm well on my way to another finished piece.

I've been really pre-occupied with a few projects, I was working on greeting cards with my friend Kelliena, she is a talented psychic from Halifax, NS.. we have come up with some greeting cards featuring my art and her readings/sentiments inside. They are beautiful, and I hand embellish each card with iridescent paint. They are available on my website, as well as a shop in NS called "Sarah's Spiritual Treasures" in Lower Sackville. (She also has a few of my necklaces available too).

I've also been quite distracted by my favorite band.. they're coming to Edmonton!!! The name of the band is HIM... they're from Finland, they sing their own special brand of music they call "love metal"... I've been addicted to their music for the past few years, and they also just had a new album come out.. I've had it playing non stop since it came out Tuesday.. LOL.. it's playing right now!!! I always have music playing while I'm painting, I find it helps me relax into the painting, I'm not thinking so hard about each brushstroke, my hands just move, and the paint goes where its supposed to... sometimes I find painting is like a sort of meditation for me. I think everyone has a source for their inspiration, mine comes from music and nature.

I'm contemplating putting up a work in progress picture of the one I'm working on now.. but maybe I'll wait, I'm so close to finishing... well here is the last painting I did.. it's called "Mermaid of Hope's Reef".. I was craving something colorful.. the dead of winter will often do that to a person I guess!

Happy Valentines All!!!!!!
